Mission
To excite minds, move hearts and change lives through theatrical performance, arts education and live entertainment in Hutchinson, Reno County and South Central Kansas
Profile
According to the American Alliance for Theatre Education, “Numerous studies have demonstrated a correlation between drama involvement and academic achievement. In addition to having higher standardized test scores than their peers who do not experience the arts, student who participate in drama often experience improved reading comprehension, maintain better attendance records, and stay generally more engaged in school than their non-arts counterparts.” In other words, theatre education can excite minds.
Several scientific studies have linked participation in theatre with increased self-esteem and personal confidence in people. Theatre can help build a person’s ability to collaborate with others, to consider viewpoints and experiences different from their own, and to share in the success of a group project. Theatre can help build empathy, patience, respect, and appreciation for others. Participation in theatre education can move hearts.
One critical element for building resiliency described in the Protective Factors framework is social connection. Evidenced based research has shown that positive relationships with peers and mentors can radically affect a person’s ability to cope with adverse childhood experiences as well as to respond to immediate psychological and emotional challenges. Theatrical productions are an excellent environment for young people to build positive and supportive relationships with peers, young adult mentors, and adult instructors. Theatre education can change lives.
At Stage 9 we continually strive for excellence in the performing arts field. Our mission is sacred to us because we truly believe ART. SAVES. LIVES.
