Salvation Army of Hutchinson

Goal: $50,000.00

Specific Need

The Salvation Army serves roughly 11.5% of our community.  The Salvation Army serves our community through our Emergency Assistance program by providing aid to those who are needing immediate help with utilities, rent, food, clothing, shelter, personal hygiene items, formula and diapers, funeral costs, and setting up homless with getting bedding and furniture once they achieve housing and state IDs.

We also house the friendship meals program and the Reno County Food Bank in our building at a very generous building usage cost.

Mission

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Profile

We are seeing an even greater need for rent and utility assistance due to the increases of energy costs and inflation.  More and more are coming to us for help that have never needed financial assistance in the past.  We encourage those who continue to struggle to take part in our Pathway of Hope program to help break the cycle of poverty.  This program looks at walking along side families through supporting them with a connection to: transportation, housing, employment, childcare, education, legal services and much more.

We serve roughly 100 clients referred to us by social security each year helping to manage their budgets in our Representative Payee Program.  We pay their rent and utilities through their funds, while also ensuring they receive, grocery and spending money each week.  These are individuals who are not able to manage their finances for various reasons from age 18 until end of life.

For Christmas alone, The Salvation Army served 914 families up from 761 families the previous year.  This means 830 more individuals were fed over the previous year’s total of 1728 individuals.  321 more children received gifts compared to the previous year.  These families received toys, clothing, stocking stuffers, blankets, and food baskets.

390 children and adults received coats prior to the winter.  They also received hats, gloves and blankets donated through Ineeda Cleaners.

Each year we give out fans to 300-500 housholds.

Monday - Friday we make it possible for homeless individuals (unhoused) to have showers, hygiene items, and clothing vouchers.
